The Thomas A. Greene Memorial Museum, also known as the Greene Geological Museum or simply the Greene Museum, is a museum dedicated to minerals and fossils. It is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and is managed by the Department of Geosciences at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. The museum offers a unique opportunity to explore the world of geology, with a focus on minerals and fossils.
The collection of the Greene Museum is no longer housed in its original building. Instead, it is now displayed in Lapham Hall, which is located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. Visitors to the museum will find the collection in this new location.
The Greene Museum boasts a collection of about 75,000 fossil specimens, most of which were collected by Thomas A. Greene during the 1880s and 1890s. The majority of these specimens originate from the Silurian Racine Dolomite Formation and the Devonian Milwaukee Formation, both located in southeastern Wisconsin. This extensive collection provides a fascinating insight into the geological history of the region.
