The Our Lady with the Rose Hospital Museum
Source

The Hôpital Notre-Dame à la Rose was founded in 1242 as a shelter for the poor and sick. It is one of the last examples of a self-sustaining hospital with farm, gardens, ice cellar and cemetery, in addition to the convent buildings and hospital. The museum has some 800 pieces of pewter, Brussels and Tournai porcelain used by the nuns in the 1950s, copper pieces including candlesticks, buckets and bedpans, silverware and wrought iron and precious linen.

The Our Lady with the Rose Hospital Museum in Lessines, Belgium, offers visitors a look into the history of medieval healthcare. Located in a well-preserved 13th-century hospital building, this museum provides an authentic experience of medical practices from centuries past. The museum's collection includes original medical instruments, pharmaceutical items, and religious artifacts, giving insight into the intersection of faith and medicine during that era. Visitors often appreciate the atmospheric setting and the opportunity to explore the old hospital wards, chapel, and herb garden. However, some find the information provided could be more extensive, and occasionally, guests mention that certain areas might benefit from better lighting or more detailed explanations. The museum's relatively small size means it can be thoroughly explored in a short time, which some see as a drawback, while others appreciate its concise nature. Overall, it's a niche museum that appeals particularly to those interested in medical history or medieval architecture.
