The Engine Collection

The Engine Collection in Kirial, just outside Grenaa on Djursland, is home to Northern Europe's largest collection of stationary engines. With over 450 historical engines on display, the majority of which have been renovated and are ready to run, the museum offers a unique insight into the history of engine technology. Visitors can explore the vast collection and learn about the different types of engines, their uses, and how they have evolved over time.

The Oldest Engine in the Collection

One of the highlights of the Engine Collection is the oldest engine in the collection, dating back to 1868. This engine, an Otto & Langen "atmospheric engine", belongs to the earliest days of the explosion engine. Based on a cannon on end principle, this engine provides a fascinating glimpse into the early days of engine technology and the innovative thinking that led to the development of modern engines.

Focus on Stationary Explosion Engines

The primary focus of The Engine Collection is on stationary explosion engines. The collection spans from the earliest atmospheric Otto & Langen engine from 1868, to the latest engines up to around 1960 - 1970. This broad range allows visitors to trace the evolution of engine technology over a century, providing a comprehensive overview of the advancements and innovations in this field.
