The Box is Plymouth's award-winning museum, art gallery and archive. We're a social space for people, art, ideas and experiences. and have already welcomed over one million visits since we opened in September 2020! We preserve the city’s cultural collections and share extraordinary stories to explore the pressing issues of our age. With free entry and no booking needed, you can explore our galleries that explore the development of the Port of Plymouth, the people who made it their home and the creatures who roamed the pre-historic landscape. You can find out about Plymouth's connections to the world, explore our Media Lab showcasing the film and television archive for South West England, find out more about your family, your street, and your city in Active Archives and be wowed by the Figureheads, each with their own story to tell of life at sea. We work closely with international and national contemporary visual artists. Through an exciting exhibition programme, we aim to innovate and offer fresh perspectives and connections between history and contemporary life.
