During the dark days of the Great War, Pop was the first stop behind hell. The city became the beating heart of the British war machine known as Petit Paris. Talbot House, set up as an Every Man’s Club by Padre Tubby Clayton, quickly became the place to be. Through his famous notices (“To Pessimists, way out!”), he created a homely atmosphere with reading rooms, a green garden, a concert hall and a magnificent chapel. Today, as real as then, you are invited in for a cup of tea, a traditional picnic, a book from the library or perhaps you’ll climb the stairs to the Upper Room. With two exhibitions and a virtual story tour, there’s a lot of exciting new things on offer.
