Slot Zuylen is a medieval castle that was rebuilt into a manor house in the 18th century. The most famous inhabitant of the castle was the Dutch writer and composer Belle van Zuylen. A guide leads visitors around the rooms of the castle, including the dining room, the guest room, the kitchen and the rooms of Belle van Zuylen. An eyecatcher is the space-filling tapestry in the Gobelin room. The garden features styles from different time periods, including the 120-meter long crinkle crankle wall from 1742.

Slot Zuylen has 3 ratings.
Slot Zuylen, located in the charming village of Oud-Zuilen in the Netherlands, is a well-preserved castle that offers visitors a glimpse into Dutch history and aristocratic life. The castle, dating back to the 13th century, features a mix of medieval and 18th-century architecture, creating an interesting blend of styles.
Visitors generally appreciate the well-maintained interiors, which showcase period furniture, art, and family heirlooms. The guided tours are often praised for being informative and engaging, providing insights into the castle's history and its former inhabitants. Many reviewers highlight the knowledgeable and friendly guides who bring the stories of the castle to life.
The surrounding gardens and grounds are another point of interest, with many visitors enjoying the peaceful atmosphere and beautiful landscaping. The picturesque setting along the Vecht River adds to the overall charm of the experience.
However, some visitors note that the castle is relatively small compared to other European castles, which might leave those expecting a grand palace slightly disappointed. Additionally, a few reviewers mention that some areas of the castle can feel a bit cluttered with artifacts, which might overwhelm some visitors.
Accessibility could be an issue for some, as the historic nature of the building means there are stairs to navigate and limited facilities for those with mobility challenges. Some visitors also suggest that more information in English would be beneficial for international tourists.
Despite these minor drawbacks, most visitors find Slot Zuylen to be a worthwhile attraction, offering a pleasant and educational experience that provides insight into Dutch noble life and history. The castle's intimate setting allows for a more personal and less crowded visit compared to some larger, more touristy sites.
