The Seaquarium du Grau-du-Roi, established in 1989, is a marine aquarium located in the commune of Grau-du-Roi, in the Gard department and the Occitanie region. The aquarium is home to a diverse range of marine life, including over 200 species of Mediterranean and tropical fish, 25 species of sharks, as well as seals and sea lions.
In 2001, the Seaquarium du Grau-du-Roi expanded its offerings with the creation of the marine mammal pole, a pool that houses seals and sea lions. Additionally, the aquarium participates in occasional events such as the European Shark Week and World Ocean Day, providing visitors with unique experiences and educational opportunities.
The Centre for the Study and Conservation of Mediterranean Sea Turtles, also known as CEST Med, is a non-profit organization established by the Seaquarium du Grau-du-Roi in 2003. The center's mission is to provide care for sea turtles, with the ultimate goal of releasing them back into their natural habitat. This initiative underscores the Seaquarium's commitment to marine conservation.
