Since 1889, the Royal Tapestry Factory has been located in the Pacífico neighborhood of Madrid. The building, which was constructed between 1889 and 1891, is a testament to the architectural style of the period. The factory continues to operate in this location today, maintaining the activity for which it was originally created.
The Royal Tapestry Factory continues its operations today under the auspices of a Foundation. This Foundation is dedicated to preserving the three-century-old tradition of artisanal production of tapestries and carpets. The aim is to keep this cultural institution and its associated artisanal crafts alive, as they are at risk of disappearing.
The Foundation that oversees the Royal Tapestry Factory has a mission to conserve and disseminate historical artistic treasures. In addition to preserving the past, the Foundation also looks to the future by continuing the task of reproducing the designs of contemporary authors. This includes works from renowned painters such as José María Sert, Manuel Viola, Picasso, and Dalí, among others.
