The Royal Factory of Glass and Crystal of La Granja, also known as the Real Fábrica de Cristales de La Granja, is a historic glass factory located in San Ildefonso, near Segovia in Spain. It was established in the year 1727 by Philip V of Spain, making it a significant part of the country's industrial history. The factory was initially set up to produce float glass for the windows and mirrors of the Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso, which was under construction during the 1720s.
The Glass Technology Museum is a key feature of the Royal Factory of Glass and Crystal of La Granja. It is housed in the old factory building, which is the only one preserved on the Royal Site. This building was designed in 1770 by the surveyor Joseph Díaz Gamones and is located outside the walls of the Granja. The structure features a basilica plan facing south and two large, new brick domes over the melting furnaces, replacing the old wooden frames that were prone to causing fires. The museum offers a unique insight into the history and techniques of glass production.
