The Royal Palace Museum in Genoa, Italy, offers visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the Savoy royal family. Located in the heart of the city, this 17th-century palazzo impresses with its grand architecture and lavish interiors. The museum showcases a rich collection of furnishings, artworks, and decorative objects from the 17th to 19th centuries.
Visitors often praise the well-preserved royal apartments, featuring ornate frescoes, chandeliers, and period furniture. The Hall of Mirrors and the Throne Room are particularly notable for their grandeur. The museum's art collection, including works by renowned Italian and European artists, adds depth to the experience.
While many appreciate the audio guide for providing context, some visitors note that not all rooms have detailed explanations in multiple languages. The museum's relatively compact size allows for a thorough exploration within a few hours, which is seen as a positive by some but may leave others wanting more.
The palace's gardens, though small, offer a pleasant respite and picturesque views of the city. However, a few visitors mention that some areas of the museum could benefit from better maintenance and lighting.
Access for visitors with mobility issues has been improved, but some parts of the palace may still present challenges due to its historical nature.
Overall, the Royal Palace Museum provides a valuable insight into Genoa's royal history and Italian aristocratic life, making it a worthwhile stop for those interested in history, art, and architecture.
The Museo di Palazzo Reale is not quite in the centre of the old city, but it is not a very far walk. Although not too impressive on the outside, the interior of the palace is really nice, on par with many famous palaces in Italy. Rooms with furniture and paintings tell the story of this palace, which will really take your breath away, particularly the hall of mirrors and the throne room, our favourites. We definitely recommend the Royal Palace if you have a little bit of time!
