The church of Santa Maria di Castello is a Catholic religious building in the historic center of Genoa, on the hillside in the district of Molo. It is one of the oldest Christian places of worship in Genoa and one of the most intact Romanesque buildings in the city. The Museum of Santa Maria di Castello (Museo di Santa Maria di Castello) exhibits archaeological finds in twelve rooms, which illustrate the oldest history of the town from the 2nd century to the late Middle Ages, as well as works of art belonging to the church and a collection of Russian icons of the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Basilica di Santa Maria di Castello is a significant historical and religious site in Genoa, Italy. This church and museum complex offers visitors a glimpse into the city's rich artistic and architectural heritage. The basilica features a blend of Romanesque and Gothic styles, with elements dating back to the 12th century.

Inside, visitors can admire beautiful frescoes, intricate sculptures, and religious artifacts. The museum section houses a collection of religious art, including paintings and liturgical objects. The cloister area provides a peaceful atmosphere and showcases interesting architectural details.

While many visitors appreciate the historical and artistic value of the basilica, some note that it's less crowded compared to other Genoese attractions, allowing for a more relaxed experience. The location on a hill offers nice views of the city and port.

However, some visitors mention that reaching the basilica can be challenging due to its location on steep streets. Additionally, the museum's information panels are primarily in Italian, which may be a drawback for international visitors.

Overall, the Basilica di Santa Maria di Castello is generally well-regarded for its historical significance and art collection, though it may not be as extensively restored or promoted as some of Genoa's more famous landmarks.
