The Princess Royal Fortress, also known as Albany Forts, is a historical site located on the northern shore of Atatürk entrance on Princess Royal Harbour on Mount Adelaide. It overlooks the beautiful King George Sound in Albany, Western Australia. Today, it operates as a museum, offering visitors a chance to delve into the past and learn about its rich history.

Restoration and Museum

The restoration of the Princess Royal Fortress began in 1987 and continued throughout the rest of the 1980s. The site was eventually transformed into a museum. Within the fortress grounds, visitors can explore restored military equipment including shore batteries, armories, barracks, the 10th Light Horse display, trails, and a collection of naval guns and torpedoes.

Anzac Centenary and National Anzac Centre

In preparation for the Anzac centenary commemorations in 2015, the entire site underwent a major upgrade. The National Anzac Centre, constructed at a cost of A$ 10.65 million, was opened at the site on 1 November 2014 by the Prime Minister of Australia, Tony Abbott, and the Prime Minister of New Zealand, John Key. This center is a significant part of the fortress and offers a deeper understanding of the Anzac history.
