Palais Galliera, The City of Paris Fashion Museum has 2 ratings.
The Palais Galliera, also known as The City of Paris Fashion Museum, is a notable destination for fashion enthusiasts visiting Paris. Located in a beautiful 19th-century palace, the museum offers a comprehensive look at the history of fashion, with a focus on French designers and couturiers.
The museum's temporary exhibitions are often praised for their thoughtful curation and presentation, showcasing both historical and contemporary fashion. Visitors appreciate the high-quality displays and the opportunity to see rare and exquisite pieces up close. The museum's collection spans from the 18th century to the present day, providing a broad perspective on the evolution of fashion.
Many reviewers commend the museum for its attention to detail in presenting the garments, including informative descriptions and context for each piece. The building itself, with its elegant architecture, adds to the overall experience and ambiance.
However, some visitors note that the museum can feel small compared to other Parisian museums, and the lack of a permanent exhibition might disappoint those expecting to see a fixed collection. Additionally, the museum is occasionally closed between exhibitions, which can lead to frustration for tourists with limited time in Paris.
Ticket prices are generally considered reasonable, especially given the quality of the exhibitions. The museum shop offers a selection of fashion-related books and souvenirs, which some visitors find enjoyable, while others consider it limited.
Overall, the Palais Galliera is recommended for those with a keen interest in fashion history and design. While it may not appeal to everyone, it offers a specialized and often visually stunning experience for fashion enthusiasts and those curious about the art of couture.
Incredibly disappointing. From their website it looks as if there are thousands of items in the collection but nothing is on display. There are two curated shows on at present, neither of which I had any desire to see, so a completely wasted journey. An absurd degree of misinformation. A couple of arrows directing visitors to the entrance would have helped too .One has to walk around the entire building to find the way in .
