The Nykøbing Sj. Psykiatriske Museum is situated in Annebergparken, housed in one of the buildings of the former state hospital just outside Nykøbing Sjælland. The museum provides a comprehensive overview of the history of psychiatry spanning nearly a century.
Apart from the museum itself, visitors can also explore the chapel located in the forest and the cemetery, intriguingly named "The brainless cemetery". This name originates from the fact that some patients buried here had their brains removed prior to burial for research into mental illnesses.
The museum offers changing special exhibitions that delve into the history of psychiatry. Additionally, there are permanent exhibitions that recreate environments from the hospital, including wards and treatment rooms.
