The NSW Rail Museum in Thirlmere, Australia, offers an engaging experience for train enthusiasts and history buffs alike. Visitors appreciate the extensive collection of locomotives and carriages, many of which are well-preserved and provide a tangible connection to Australia's railway heritage. The museum's outdoor exhibits allow guests to explore various trains up close, which is particularly appealing to families with children.
Many reviewers highlight the knowledgeable and passionate volunteers who enhance the visit with their insights and stories. The train rides offered on certain days are a popular attraction, giving visitors a chance to experience historic rail travel firsthand.
On the downside, some visitors mention that the museum can feel a bit dated in places, and the displays could benefit from more interactive elements or updated information panels. A few reviewers also note that the remote location can make it challenging to access without a car.
Despite these minor drawbacks, the general consensus is that the NSW Rail Museum provides a worthwhile day out, especially for those interested in transportation history. The combination of static displays and operational trains creates a comprehensive overview of Australia's railway past.
Collections on display looks fantastic and well looked after however reception staff were rude and seemed completely disinterested to be there.
