In our Coolhaven location, you will experience what it means when your city is bombed. What does your life look like when you are persecuted and oppressed afterwards? An important part of the visit is the immersive Experience. You take your seat at an eight-meter-long touchscreen table. And before you know it, it's May 14, 1940. Bombs fall, the city burns, people scream, buildings collapse and houses are destroyed. And then suddenly there is nothing. A desolate barren plain. Yet this is not the end of the city. The Rotterdammers pick up the threads together and reconstruction is a fact. In this short film you experience the war up close and you see what made the city of Rotterdam so different from most cities in the Netherlands.

Museum Rotterdam '40-'45 NU offers visitors a comprehensive look at Rotterdam's experience during World War II. The museum effectively presents the impact of the war on the city and its inhabitants through a variety of exhibits and personal stories. Visitors appreciate the well-organized displays that include authentic artifacts, photographs, and documents from the era. The museum does a good job of balancing factual information with emotional narratives, helping visitors connect with the city's wartime history on a personal level. The interactive elements and audio-visual presentations enhance the overall experience, making history more engaging for all age groups. Some visitors note that while the museum is relatively small, it compensates with the depth and quality of its content. The staff is generally described as knowledgeable and helpful, adding value to the visit. However, a few visitors mention that some exhibits could benefit from more English translations, as not all information is available in multiple languages. Despite this, most find the museum informative and moving, providing a sobering yet educational experience about a crucial period in Rotterdam's history. The museum's location in the heart of Rotterdam also allows visitors to easily combine it with other historical sites related to the war and reconstruction period.
