The Museum of the Order of St John tells the story of the ancient religious military Order, from its origins as a pan-European Order of Hospitaller Knights caring for sick pilgrims in 11th century Jerusalem, through to its modern-day role with St John Ambulance, the international first aid charity. The museum is housed in St John's Gate, a 16th-century gatehouse that once formed the entrance to the Priory of Clerkenwell. Visitors can take tours that take them to the Norman crypt (the oldest part of the Priory) as well as the 16th century church above.

Museum of the Order of St John has 1 rating.
The Museum of the Order of St John in London offers visitors an informative journey through the history of the Knights Hospitaller and their charitable work. Located in a historic building, the museum showcases a collection of artifacts, paintings, and manuscripts that illustrate the Order's evolution from medieval times to the present day.
Many visitors appreciate the museum's well-curated exhibits and the knowledgeable staff who provide insightful tours. The Tudor-style gatehouse and the priory church are often highlighted as architectural highlights. The museum's intimate size allows for a thorough exploration in a relatively short time, making it a good option for those interested in religious or medical history.
However, some reviewers note that the museum's niche subject matter may not appeal to all visitors. The limited space and occasionally dated presentation style in some areas have been mentioned as minor drawbacks. Additionally, a few visitors have reported that certain areas of the museum can feel a bit dark or cramped.
Despite these minor critiques, the museum is generally well-regarded for its educational value and the opportunity it provides to learn about a lesser-known aspect of London's history. The peaceful garden and the preserved historical spaces add to the overall experience, offering a quiet retreat from the busy city.
