The Museum of the Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa, inaugurated on July 17, 2009, is situated in the municipality of Santa Elena, Jaén, in the area known as Despeñaperros. This location is significant as it is the site where the historic battle took place.
Owned by the Diputación de Jaén, the museum commemorates the significant Battle of Las Navas de Tolosa that occurred in 1212. This battle was fought between the Christian army, led by Alfonso VIII of Castile, and the troops of the Almohad Caliph Muhammad An-Nasir.
The museum houses recreations of the camps, clothing, and weapons of both the Christian and Muslim sides involved in the battle. It also provides context to the battle through a series of banners that detail the history of the period.
