The Museum of Contemporary Art Jacksonville, also known as MOCA Jacksonville, is a contemporary art museum located in Jacksonville, Florida. It is funded and operated as a 'cultural institute' of the University of North Florida. This museum is one of the largest contemporary art institutions in the Southeastern United States, showcasing exhibitions by international, national, and regional artists.
In late 1999, the museum found its permanent home in the historic Western Union Telegraph Building on Hemming Plaza. This building, constructed by The Auchter Company, is located adjacent to the newly renovated City Hall. It was at this time that the museum became known as the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art (JMOMA).
MOCA Jacksonville offers a variety of educational programs. These include children's literacy initiatives and weekend art-making classes. In addition, the museum provides regular tours, lectures, films, and publications for both children and adults. These activities make the museum a dynamic and engaging place for visitors of all ages.
MOCA Jacksonville's exhibitions are constantly changing, featuring the works of contemporary artists working in a wide range of media, including painting, sculpture, and video. The third floor of the museum hosts these exhibitions, which rotate approximately every four months. This ensures that there is always something new and exciting to see at the museum.
