Museu Luso-Hebraico Abraham Zacuto

Abraão Zacuto was the author of a new and improved Astrolabe, which he taught Portuguese navigators to use. He also developed improved astronomical tables that helped guide Portuguese caravels at sea, through calculations from observations with the Astrolabe. His contributions undoubtedly saved the lives of many Portuguese sailors and enabled the discoveries of Brazil and the sea route to India.

Zacuto's Notable Astronomical Treatise

While still in Spain, Zacuto wrote and published a notable treatise on astronomy in Hebrew, titled Ha-ḥibbur ha-gadol, or The Great Book. This work was highly respected and was later translated into Latin and Castilian by Master José Vizinho.
