The Museu do Folclore de São José dos Campos is situated within the Parque Municipal Roberto Burle Marx, commonly referred to as Parque da Cidade. This park is recognized as a preservation zone due to its rich historical, cultural, and architectural value. The museum, which is part of the Fundação Cultural Cassiano Ricardo (FCCR) and managed by the Centro de Estudos da Cultural Popular (CECP), was established in 1987 to highlight and preserve the region's folklore.
The museum's permanent exhibition, 'Patrimônio Imaterial: Folclore e Identidade Regional', was established in 2006. It showcases a variety of works, objects, images, photos, and videos that are related to the folklore culture of the region and Brazil as a whole. This exhibition, curated by museologist Raul Lody, is organized into ten different environments, providing a comprehensive view of the region's rich cultural heritage.
In addition to the permanent exhibition, the museum also houses a library that contains a collection of books, audios, videos, and photos related to popular culture. This provides a valuable resource for those interested in learning more about the region's folklore. Furthermore, the 'Vendinha do Museu' offers visitors the opportunity to purchase items made by local residents, allowing them to take a piece of the region's culture home with them.
