The Museo Mineralogico Campano is a natural history museum situated in the picturesque town of Vico Equense. Established in 1992, the museum has been a significant part of the town's cultural and scientific landscape for nearly three decades.
The Museo Mineralogico Campano is home to an extensive collection of minerals and fossils. Visitors can view about 3,500 minerals, which are part of a larger collection of over 5,000. These minerals are displayed in 34 showcases and are classified according to the mineralogical classes devised by scientist Hugo Strunz.
In addition to its mineral and fossil collection, the Museo Mineralogico Campano also features several other sections. These include a paleontology section with over a hundred fossils and dinosaur remains, a gem section showcasing over five hundred precious stones, an anthropological section with numerous examples of Paleolithic and Neolithic lithic industry, and a malacology section dedicated to the study of mollusks.
