Museo Graciliano Arcila Vélez (Itagüí) and its collection

SOCIO-CULTURAL CONTEXT Since 2009 the first approaches were made with the community of the sector, in these meetings it became evident the need to have a space that will tell the story of the neighborhood, the neighboring communities and in turn generate actions to promote social appropriation of a space of great importance as the Graciliano Arcila Velez Archaeological Park, commonly known as the Petroglyphs Park. For the period, different activities were carried out with the community, such as guided tours, awareness workshops and practical field workshops, among others, all related to the Cultural and Natural Heritage of the municipality of Itagüí and the Aburrá Valley. Before the opening of the community museum in Barrio El Rosario, the community did not have a place that would allow not only children but also young people and adults to learn about and participate in other cultural, educational, artistic and environmental dynamics, which would allow them to approach the heritage and historical processes of their locality. In a special way it has been the children who have found in the community museum a space that has offered them different possibilities of learning and interaction with the environment in which they live and with their peers, these children and young people have grown up in an environment characterized by a stigma of violence and by a social problem framed in an apathy and absence of the state, which has been reflected in years of abandonment and lack of opportunities for the inhabitants of the neighborhood. Social dynamics have been affected by the fact that few "traditional" families have been formed there, and it is almost always the mother who has assumed the role of "father" and "mother" with all the responsibility for the upbringing and maintenance of the family nucleus.
