Museo dell'Abruzzo Bizantino ed Altomedievale di Crecchio

The Museo dell'Abruzzo Bizantino ed Altomedievale is situated in the charming town of Crecchio, within the province of Chieti. The museum is housed in the historic Ducal Castle, adding an extra layer of historical significance to the artifacts it holds. Archaeological Discoveries at the Museum

The museum's collection includes objects discovered during archaeological research conducted by the Archeoclub d'Italia, in collaboration with the Sopraintendenza Archeologica d'Abruzzo. These artifacts were found in a Roman-Byzantine villa at the locality of Vassarella in the municipality of Crecchio between 1988 and 1991. The collection provides a fascinating insight into the region's past, particularly its Byzantine and early medieval periods.

New Section Dedicated to Wooden Artifacts

On July 20, 2007, a new section of the museum was inaugurated, dedicated to the precious wooden artifacts recovered in the cistern of the Roman-Byzantine villa of Casino Vezzani-Vassarella. This section offers visitors a chance to appreciate the craftsmanship and artistry of the period, as well as the preservation techniques used to maintain these delicate wooden pieces.
