The Castello di Masnago, also known as "Castello Castiglioni-Mantegazza", is a medieval fortification that was transformed into a villa by the Castiglioni family in the 15th century. The castle is adorned with an important cycle of secular frescoes in the courtly Gothic style, which adds to its historical and artistic significance.
Currently, the castle is owned by the Municipality of Varese and it houses the Museo Civico d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea. The museum showcases works of modern and contemporary art, making it a significant cultural hub in the region.
The museum's collection includes works of painting, sculpture, and graphics from the 16th to the 20th century. These works originate from the Lombardy region, providing a comprehensive overview of the region's artistic evolution over the centuries.
