The Musée-Parc Archéologique Arkéos is a museum and park located in the communes of Douai and Râches, situated on the right bank of the Scarpe. The museum has been open to the public since June 21, 2014, offering visitors a chance to explore archaeological exhibits and reconstructed medieval habitats.
The Musée-Parc Archéologique Arkéos is divided into two main sections: an archaeological museum and a park featuring reconstructed medieval habitats. This unique combination allows visitors to not only learn about the past through artifacts and exhibits but also to experience it firsthand through the reconstructed habitats.
The archaeological park of the Musée-Parc Archéologique Arkéos is entirely dedicated to the Middle Ages, with a particular focus on the High Middle Ages (VI-XI centuries). This open-air space features reconstructed ancient buildings, which are based on the traces and remains discovered during archaeological excavations. This allows visitors to experience a tangible representation of the past.
