The Musée de la Tannerie et du Cuir is a museum situated in Bort-les-Orgues, a town in the Corrèze department of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in France. The museum is dedicated to the history of the former tanneries of Bort-les-Orgues, providing a unique insight into the region's industrial past.
The museum houses about twenty original machines, some over a hundred years old, that were used for the transformation of skins. These machines, along with a video and old photographs, allow visitors to discover the work of the tanner, from the raw skin to the finished leather.
The museum offers an interactive workshop where visitors can create their own leather object to take home as a souvenir. This hands-on experience provides a unique opportunity to learn about the process of leather making and to engage with the museum's exhibits in a more personal way.
