The Military Museum of the Southern Military Command, also known as the Army Museum, is a significant historical site in Porto Alegre. It is conveniently located in the city center, near the Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, on Andradas Street 630. The museum is housed in a historic 19th-century building, adding to its charm and historical significance.
Collection and Exhibits
The Military Museum boasts a collection of more than four thousand pieces. These include collections of combat and transport vehicles, uniforms, weapons, equipment, helmets, clothing, heraldry, photos, and documents. The exhibits span from the colonial period to the present day, providing a comprehensive view of Brazil's military history.
Opening Hours and Guided Tours
The Military Museum is open to the public from Tuesday to Thursday, from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Fridays from 9 am to 12 pm. On Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, the museum is open from 1:30 pm to 5 pm. For those interested in a more in-depth exploration of the museum, guided tours are available by appointment.
