The castle was built around 1860 by order of Baron Charles van Caloen and his wife. It was designed by Edward Welby Pugin and Jean Bethune. Inside is the museum where collections of paintings, drawings, printed matter, sculptures, pottery and porcelain are displayed, among other things. The focus of the museum is the 16th and 17th centuries.
