Hjemsted Oldtidspark, also known as Hjemsted - Danernes Verden, was a museum located near Skærbæk, close to Rømø. The museum's focus was on the Iron Age, and it featured an underground museum and an outdoor area with newly constructed Iron Age houses. This unique combination provided visitors with a comprehensive understanding of the Iron Age period.
Outdoor Exhibits at Hjemsted Oldtidspark
The outdoor area of Hjemsted Oldtidspark covers 24 tdl., and it features a number of houses from different periods of the Iron Age. These include farms, craft houses, and a small fortress. Additionally, the park houses two Roman war machines, an onager and a ballista. The latter is the world's only full-size reconstruction of a Hatra ballista, making it a unique attraction for visitors.
Summer Activities at Hjemsted Oldtidspark
During the summer months, Hjemsted Oldtidspark is enlivened by volunteers who inhabit the Iron Age village, dressed in period costumes. This immersive experience allows visitors to gain a deeper understanding of the lifestyle and culture of the Iron Age.
