Den Hirschsprungske Samling, or Hirschsprung Collection is a museum in Copenhagen that is dedicated to visual art from Denmark, mostly from the 19th century. The Hirschsprung Collection is chronologically exhibited. Much space is reserved for artists from the Danish Golden Age, but later 19th-century movements such as Det Moderne Gennembrud (The Modern Breakthrough), the Danish symbolists and the Skagenschilders are also well represented. In addition to paintings, sculptures, drawings and sketchbooks, the museum also houses a large collection of furniture and personal belongings from Danish artists from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Hirschsprung Collection (Hirschsprungske Samling) has 1 rating.
The Hirschsprung Collection (Hirschsprungske Samling) in Copenhagen, Denmark, is a notable art museum showcasing Danish art from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Housed in a beautiful neoclassical building in central Copenhagen, the museum offers visitors a comprehensive look at Danish Golden Age paintings and Skagen painters.
The collection, originally assembled by tobacco manufacturer Heinrich Hirschsprung and his wife Pauline, features works by prominent Danish artists such as Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg, Christen Købke, P.S. Krøyer, and Anna Ancher. Visitors often appreciate the intimate atmosphere of the museum, which allows for a close-up experience with the artworks.
The museum's chronological arrangement provides a clear overview of the development of Danish art during this period. Many reviewers highlight the high quality of the paintings and the well-curated exhibits. The museum's manageable size allows for a thorough viewing in about 1-2 hours, making it a good option for art enthusiasts with limited time.
Some visitors note that the museum can be quieter compared to larger, more tourist-oriented attractions in Copenhagen, which can be either a positive or negative depending on personal preference. While most information is available in both Danish and English, a few reviewers mention that some additional context about the artworks or artists would be helpful for international visitors.
The museum's location in the picturesque Østre Anlæg park is often cited as an added bonus, allowing visitors to combine art appreciation with a pleasant walk in the park.
Overall, the Hirschsprung Collection is generally well-regarded for its focused presentation of Danish art history, though it may appeal more to those with a specific interest in this area rather than casual tourists.
