The Hillman Site, also known as the Widerstandnest 17, is a significant historical location in the coastal town of Colleville-Montgomery in Normandy. This site was a fortified German point of the Atlantic Wall, constructed during the Second World War. It played a crucial role in the war, resisting British assaults until the morning of June 7, 1944, the day after D-Day.
In 1989, a local resident of Colleville-Montgomery, Madame Lénauld, donated one of the bunkers on her property to the Suffolk Regiment. A memorial was subsequently installed in the bunker, which was inaugurated on June 6, 1989, in the presence of veterans from the Suffolk Regiment. This memorial serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during the war.
