Gunma Insect World, opened in 2005, is a nature and adventure park that houses an architecturally appealing insectarium. This unique facility is located in Kiryu, a city in the Gunma Prefecture on the main island of Honshu, Japan. The park was designed by the renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando, who aimed to create a building that would blend into the greenery of the surroundings as the trees grew, with the glass dome glittering under the treetops.
Gunma Insect World is divided into four zones, each offering a unique experience. The park is home to more than 1400 insect species and 80 bird species, providing a rich biodiversity for visitors to explore. Whether you're an insect enthusiast or a bird watcher, there's something for everyone at this park.
Gunma Insect World offers a range of educational programs designed to introduce children of all ages to the diversity and peculiarities of the insect world. Visitors are encouraged to actively search for insects in the forest and grassland areas of the park, and participate in the Catch and Release program. Butterfly nets and other equipment can be rented, making it a hands-on, interactive experience for all.
