The Exploreum Science Center, formerly known as the Gulf Coast Exploreum Science Center, is a non-profit institution located in downtown Mobile, Alabama. The center is dedicated to promoting science learning through a variety of activities, including exhibits, Digital Dome movies, demonstrations, workshops, and teacher professional development.
The Exploreum Science Center houses several permanent galleries that cater to a wide range of interests. These include the Hands On Hall, which features more than 20 interactive exhibits; the Wharf of Wonder, designed for the smallest of Exploreum visitors, from infants to age 5; the Curiosity Factory; and My BodyWorks, a health exhibit that opened in Winter 2009 and is dedicated to human health and workforce development.
In addition to its permanent galleries, the Exploreum Science Center also hosts a variety of interactive traveling exhibits throughout the year. These exhibits cover a broad range of science content and are supplemented with themed educational programming. Past exhibits have included 'Mysteries of Egypt', 'China! 7,000 Years of Innovation', 'International Space Station', and 'Genghis Khan: The Great Civilizer'.
