The Geoscience Museum of Rocca di Papa is situated in the upper part of the town. It is housed in the former Geodynamic Observatory, which was constructed by Michele Stefano de Rossi, who is known as the father of modern seismology. The construction of this building took place between the years 1888 and 1889.
The museum is spread over two levels, each addressing a different theme related to Earth sciences. The topics covered in the museum range from geophysics to volcanology, seismology, and Earth sciences. There is also a section dedicated to the geological development of the lands that constitute the ancient volcanic cone of the Lazio Volcano.
The museum houses a variety of instruments, both ancient and modern. Special emphasis is given to the simulation of the effects of earthquakes and the historical evolution of the seismograph.
