With an extensive collection of approximately 18,000 garments and accessories, Modemuseum Hasselt tells a wide variety of stories about Western fashion from 1750 until today. Do not expect a permanent presentation, but two remarkable exhibitions a year that draw from the museum’s own collection or are supplemented with meaningful loans from home and abroad. The shows tackle societal themes and offer new perspectives on clothing, yourself and the world. The museum surprises you again and again with attractive exhibitions such as Wonder Women (2019), SMUK/Embellishment (2019), Activewear (2021), DressUndress (2022), Bags: Inside Out (2023) and, finally, the latest one: We Need to Talk about Fashion (2023).

Fashion Museum Hasselt has 1 rating.
The Fashion Museum Hasselt offers visitors an engaging look at the history and evolution of fashion. Located in the heart of Hasselt, Belgium, this museum houses an impressive collection of clothing and accessories spanning various eras. The exhibits are well-curated, providing context and insights into different fashion periods and styles. Many visitors appreciate the museum's temporary exhibitions, which often showcase contemporary designers or specific themes in fashion history. The museum's layout is generally praised for its logical flow and informative displays.
While the museum receives positive feedback for its content, some visitors note that it's relatively small compared to other fashion museums. This can be both an advantage and a disadvantage; it allows for a focused visit but may leave some wanting more. The museum shop offers a selection of fashion-related items and books, which many find interesting, though prices can be on the higher side.
One aspect that receives mixed reviews is the level of English translations available. While efforts have been made to accommodate international visitors, some exhibits may have limited English information, which can be frustrating for non-Dutch speakers.
The museum's location in a historic building adds to its charm, but a few visitors mention that accessibility could be improved, particularly for those with mobility issues. Despite these minor drawbacks, most visitors find the Fashion Museum Hasselt to be an informative and enjoyable experience, especially for those with an interest in fashion history and design.
