The Clifford House, also known as the Clifford-Taylor House, is a historic home located at 536 North Bay Street in Eustis, Florida. This house was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on April 4, 1975. It was owned by G.D. Clifford, an early settler and local merchandiser. The construction of this 4,500 sq ft house began in 1910 and was completed in 1911.
The Clifford House is not just a historic home, but also the location of the Eustis Historical Museum & Preservation Society. This society was founded in 1983 with the aim of preserving and showcasing the local history of Eustis. The museum within the Clifford House features 18 rooms, each with a different theme and filled with period antiques and displays of local history.
Among the 18 rooms in the Clifford House, one is named the 'Indiana Jones Room'. This room is dedicated to the memory of Dr. Edgar J. Banks, a professor and archaeologist who spent time in Eustis. Dr. Banks is considered to be the inspiration for the character of Indiana Jones. This room offers a unique insight into the life and work of Dr. Banks.
