The Don Harrington Discovery Center, located in Amarillo, Texas, is a nonprofit organization that serves as an interactive science center and planetarium. Named after philanthropist Don Harrington, the center is situated in the city's hospital district. It offers a variety of exhibits and programs that aim to educate and entertain visitors of all ages.
In front of the Don Harrington Discovery Center, visitors can find the Helium Centennial Time Columns Monument. This six-story high stainless steel structure was built in 1968 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the discovery of helium. The monument contains four time capsules, which are scheduled to be opened at different intervals. The contents of the first two capsules are now on display at the Discovery Center.
The planetarium at the Don Harrington Discovery Center underwent a renovation in 2003. As part of this upgrade, the Digistar 3, a fulldome video projection technology, was implemented. This allows visitors to enjoy immersive and educational shows about the universe.
