Denmark's Industrial Museum

The Danish Industrial Museum, which was inaugurated in 1977, is situated in Horsens. The museum is housed on the grounds of a former electricity and gas plant, providing a unique backdrop for the exhibits.

Exhibition on Industrial and Working Culture

Main Hall Exhibits

In the main hall of the museum, visitors can see functional diesel engines of various sizes and the switchboard of the former electricity plant. These exhibits offer a glimpse into the machinery and technology used in the past.

The museum features exhibitions on a variety of techniques, including stone printing, book printing, typesetting with Linotype typesetting machines, beer brewing, bookbinding, tobacco cultivation and cigar production, and wooden shoe production. These exhibits provide a comprehensive overview of the diverse industrial practices in Denmark.

Museum Street with Reconstructed Shops

On the upper floor of the museum, there is a fully furnished museum street with reconstructed shops as they would have appeared in Denmark in the 1950s. These include a butcher, a hairdresser, a clothing store, and a radio dealer. This exhibit offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and experience the commercial life of mid-20th century Denmark.

Former Workers' Houses Exhibit

The museum also features two small former workers' houses that are furnished in a way that each floor represents the furnishings of the various epochs from 1850 to 1998. This exhibit provides a glimpse into the living conditions of workers during different periods.
