Source

Housed in the Norbertine Abbey at Tongerlo, the Da Vinci Museum is a one-art museum. The abbey owns one of the most faithful replica of the Last Supper, painted by Leonardo da Vinci in the dining room of the Santa Maria delle Grazie cloister in Milan. The original fresco is in bad shape because Leonardo da Vinci experimented with new painting techniques. The replica in the da Vinci Museum is believed to date from 1507-1509, about a decade after the original.

The Da Vinci-Museum, located in the Norbertine Abbey of Tongerlo, Belgium, offers visitors a chance to see a remarkable copy of Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper." This 16th-century reproduction is considered one of the best existing copies of the famous masterpiece. The museum, while small, provides an intimate setting to appreciate this work of art.

Visitors often note the peaceful atmosphere of the abbey grounds, which adds to the overall experience. The museum's focus is primarily on the Last Supper copy, with some additional information about Leonardo da Vinci and the painting's history. Some guests find the limited scope a bit disappointing, expecting more exhibits related to da Vinci's other works or life.

The staff is generally described as friendly and knowledgeable, although some reviewers mention that more detailed explanations or guided tours would enhance the visit. The museum's location within the historic abbey is appreciated by many, but it can be a bit challenging to find for some visitors.

While the museum offers a unique opportunity to see this important copy up close, some visitors feel the admission price is a bit high for the relatively brief experience. However, art enthusiasts and those interested in religious history often find the visit worthwhile.

Overall, the Da Vinci-Museum provides a focused and tranquil experience centered around a significant piece of art history. It's best suited for those with a specific interest in "The Last Supper" or religious art, rather than those expecting a comprehensive da Vinci exhibition.
