Collection Lambert
Source

The Lambert Collection, located in Avignon, is a significant collection of contemporary art that has been gathered by the Parisian gallery owner Yvon Lambert since the 1960s. This collection is unique in France and currently includes over 1,200 works. It is the result of the close relationship that has been established over many years between the collector-dealer and his artists.

Location of the Lambert Collection

The Lambert Collection is housed in the Hôtel de Caumont, a museum that has been open to the public since 2000. The Hôtel de Caumont is located at 5 rue Violette. It was started in 1720 by Jean-Baptiste Franque and completed by his son François after 1751. Despite transformations, arrangements, and destructions related to its use, this hotel remains the masterpiece of the Franque.

Artists in the Lambert Collection

The Lambert Collection includes a coherent set of works by renowned artists such as Jean-Michel Basquiat, Robert Ryman, Brice Marden, Miquel Barceló, Carl André, Gordon Matta-Clark, Anselm Kiefer, Christian Boltanski, Andres Serrano, Douglas Gordon and others. Some of these artists, such as Cy Twombly or Nan Goldin, who are absent from national collections, are very well represented here.

The Collection Lambert in Avignon, France, is a contemporary art museum that houses an impressive array of works from the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Visitors often appreciate the well-curated exhibitions featuring both permanent collections and temporary shows. The museum is praised for its thoughtful presentation of artworks in a beautifully renovated 18th-century mansion.

Many reviewers highlight the diverse range of artists represented, including both established names and emerging talents in contemporary art. The spacious, light-filled galleries provide an excellent environment for viewing the artworks. Some visitors particularly enjoy the outdoor courtyard, which offers a pleasant space for reflection between exhibition rooms.

While most feedback is positive, a few visitors mention that the museum might not appeal to those who are not particularly interested in contemporary art. Some also note that the collection, while high-quality, is not as extensive as larger metropolitan museums. Additionally, a small number of reviewers feel that the admission price is a bit high for the size of the collection.

Overall, the Collection Lambert is generally well-regarded for its focus on contemporary art, its well-designed space, and its contribution to Avignon's cultural scene. It offers an engaging experience for those interested in modern artistic expressions, though it may not be suited for visitors seeking a more traditional or comprehensive art museum experience.
