The Cité des Arts is a cultural and tourist center located in Besançon, in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region of France. It was designed by the French agency Archidev in collaboration with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma and was inaugurated on April 5, 2013. The center houses the Besançon Regional Conservatory and the Franche-Comté Regional Contemporary Art Fund.

The Building of Cité des Arts

The Cité des Arts building is 185 meters long and 15 meters high, with a total area of 11,390 square meters spread over three floors. It is located on the edge of the historic city center and the Faubourg de Rivotte, at the foot of the Besançon citadel. The building was constructed on the site of the former river port of Besançon from the 1930s, along the Doubs, near the Bregille bridge.

Art Collection at the Cité des Arts

The Cité des Arts is home to a growing collection of contemporary art works acquired by the Franche-Comté Regional Contemporary Art Fund (FRAC). As of 2012, the collection included more than 500 works from over 200 artists, spanning various mediums such as painting, photography, sculpture, installation, graphic work, textile work, and audiovisual work. These works are partially exhibited in numerous exhibition rooms within the center.
