Christ Church is unique among Oxford and Cambridge colleges in possessing an important collection of Old Master paintings and drawings, housed in a purpose-built gallery designed by architects Powell and Moya. The collection is strongest in Italian Renaissance and Baroque art, including paintings by Lippi, Tintoretto, Veronese, van Dyck and the Carracci. The internationally renowned collection of almost 2000 Old Master drawings and over 3000 prints holds important sheets by Leonardo, Dürer, Michelangelo, Raphael and Mantegna. These works cannot be on permanent display for conservation reasons, but a large number are regularly on show.
