The Celestino Solar Citadel, located in Gijón, is a historical site that was constructed in 1877 by Celestino González Solar. The citadel was built in an area known as La Garita, which is now part of a block of buildings known as the Martillo de Capua. This location offers a glimpse into the architectural and social history of the region.
The Celestino Solar Citadel underwent a rehabilitation process in 2003, led by the Gijón City Council. In 2018, it was fully reopened to the public under the management of the Asturias Railway Museum. The citadel is now part of the municipal network of museums, making it a significant part of the city's cultural and historical offerings.
Visitors to the Celestino Solar Citadel can explore two distinct areas: the small courtyard and the large courtyard. These spaces offer different perspectives and experiences, allowing visitors to fully appreciate the historical and architectural significance of the citadel.
