The Blackwells Mills Canal House is a historic site located in Franklin Township, Somerset County, New Jersey. It is situated on the Delaware and Raritan Canal, a significant waterway in the region. The house was originally built in the 1830s to accommodate the bridge tender, who was responsible for operating the swing bridge to allow boats to pass through the canal.
In 1971, the Blackwells Mills Canal House Association was established. The association leased the house from the state and initiated its restoration. Today, the house serves as a community center, museum, and library, offering a glimpse into the region's past and its canal history.
