Visitors often praise the museum's well-curated exhibits, which provide a balanced representation of various artistic periods and styles. The collection includes notable works by El Greco, Goya, and Zurbarán, as well as modern masters like Bacon and Tàpies. The museum's strength lies in its ability to present a coherent narrative of art evolution, making it accessible and engaging for both art enthusiasts and casual visitors.

The building itself, a blend of classical and modern architecture, receives positive feedback for its spacious, well-lit galleries that enhance the viewing experience. Many reviewers appreciate the museum's manageable size, allowing for a thorough exploration without overwhelming visitors.

The museum's commitment to showcasing Basque art is frequently highlighted as a unique aspect, providing insight into the region's cultural heritage. Additionally, the temporary exhibitions are often cited as thought-provoking and well-executed, adding value to repeat visits.

On the downside, some visitors mention that certain areas of the museum could benefit from updated information panels or more extensive descriptions in multiple languages. A few reviewers also note that while the collection is diverse, it may not have the same depth in certain periods as larger, more famous museums.
