The Bibliotheca Wittockiana, which bears the name of its founder, opened in autumn 1983. Michel Wittock had been an avid bibliophile since adolescence, and over his lifetime had built up an outstanding collection of books, manuscripts and autographs. He decided to share this with his bibliophile friends and opened his library to the public.

The Bibliotheca Wittockiana, located in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, Belgium, is a specialized museum dedicated to book arts and book bindings. Visitors generally appreciate the museum's unique focus and its extensive collection of beautifully crafted books and bindings from various periods. The museum houses an impressive array of rare and historical books, showcasing the evolution of bookbinding techniques and styles over time.

Many reviewers highlight the museum's peaceful and scholarly atmosphere, which allows for a contemplative exploration of the exhibits. The staff is often described as knowledgeable and helpful, enhancing the visitor experience with their expertise. The building itself, a modern structure with interesting architectural features, receives positive mentions for its design that complements the collection.

However, some visitors note that the museum's appeal may be limited to those with a specific interest in books and bookbinding. For casual visitors, the exhibits might seem too specialized or technical. A few reviews mention that more comprehensive English translations or guides would be beneficial for international visitors, as some explanations are primarily in French or Dutch.

The temporary exhibitions are generally well-received, offering fresh perspectives on book arts and related topics. However, some visitors express a desire for more interactive elements or hands-on experiences to engage with the craft of bookbinding.

Overall, the Bibliotheca Wittockiana is appreciated for its niche focus and the quality of its collection. It's particularly recommended for bibliophiles, art lovers, and those interested in the history and craft of bookmaking. While it may not cater to everyone's tastes, it offers a unique and educational experience for those intrigued by the art of the book.
