Amalienborg and its collection

Amalienborg
Source

The Amalienborg is a Rococo palace complex in Copenhagen that serves as the residence of the Danish royals. It consists of four palaces that are exact copies of one another, all organized symmetrically around a small square. The statue of a man on a horse in the middle of the square depicts king Frederick V, who ruled the country in the 18th century. The palaces, built between 1750 and 1760, have been the home to the Danish monarchs ever since the Christiansborg Palace burned to the ground in 1794. The Christian VII's Palace serves as a museum and is open to visitors. Visit at noon if you want to see the ceremony of changing of royal guards.

Amalienborg has 1 rating.

  • Apollo's Insights AI-Generated

Amalienborg, the official residence of the Danish royal family, offers visitors a glimpse into Danish royal history and culture. Located in the heart of Copenhagen, this complex consists of four identical palaces surrounding an octagonal courtyard.

The museum, housed in Christian VIII's Palace, showcases the private rooms of past monarchs and provides insight into royal life from the mid-19th to late 20th centuries. Visitors appreciate the well-preserved interiors, including furniture, art, and personal belongings of the royal family. The exhibitions are informative, offering a good balance of historical context and personal anecdotes.

A highlight for many is the daily changing of the guard ceremony, which takes place in the central square. This spectacle adds a touch of pomp and circumstance to the visit, though it can get crowded during peak times.

While the museum provides an interesting look into Danish royalty, some visitors find the entry fee relatively high for the amount of accessible areas. Additionally, photography is not allowed inside, which disappoints some tourists.

The location of Amalienborg is convenient, within walking distance of other Copenhagen attractions. However, some visitors note that the experience could be enhanced with more interactive elements or guided tours.

Overall, Amalienborg offers a solid experience for those interested in royal history and architecture, though it may not appeal as much to visitors seeking more immersive or hands-on museum experiences.
