Vélez is a historic municipality located in the Santander Department of Colombia. Founded in 1539, it is notably one of the oldest Spanish settlements in Colombia.

The town is particularly known for its production of bocadillo veleño, a traditional sweet made from guava paste that has become a significant part of Colombian culinary heritage. The municipality maintains much of its colonial architecture, with traditional whitewashed buildings and red-tiled roofs characteristic of Spanish colonial style.

The area around Vélez is known for its rich agricultural activities and the preservation of cultural traditions, including the development of tiple music, a distinctive Colombian musical style. The town regularly hosts cultural events that celebrate its heritage and traditional crafts.
