Nuremberg is a city in Germany. The city had a flourishing metal industry from the 15th to the 17th century, after which the city lost some of its importance. Until the Second World War the center had a medieval character with Gothic buildings. The historic center was almost completely destroyed by air attacks and a ground offensive. After the war, the medieval buildings of the inner city were largely reconstructed. Nuremberg is one of the few cities in the country though that has still largely retained the original fortification walls and towers.
